1968 Ford Mustang Shelby Team

To say Ford had a tough-luck Trans-Am season in 1968 is to be kind. The title went to Chevrolet for the first time, with the team of Roger Penske and Mark Donahue campaigning Camaro Z/28s. But there were shining moments for Ford nonetheless. The one most often remembered by Ford fans is the finish of the 1968 Daytona 24-Hour, a race that saw one of the two Mustangs entered by Shelby Racing and driven by Jerry Titus and Ronny Bucknum finishing first in class and an amazing fourth overall behind three Porsche 907s. Early season success, however short-lived, keeps these Mustangs on the Ford fan's list to this day.
