G.T. 350 R 5R103
The R-model Shelby Mustangs were built only in 1965 and only for use as true race cars. Although they were ordered through Shelby-authorized Ford dealers, they were not legal for street use and only 36 of them were ever built. The goal for these cars was to win the SCCA National B-Production Championship, which they did in 1965, 1966 and 1967. This car, serial number 5R103, took the title in 1966, driven by Walt Hane. When the total number of race wins are tabulated, the record shows that this particular car won more races in its career than any other R-model. It has been restored and competes in vintage racing events today.
